About Me (Alana Maki-Foust)

It's winter which means ski jumping is a part of my daily life and always on my mind. Sometimes I can't sleep because of the exciting things happening. Last night was no exception and in the middle of the night, I decided that I, of course, should start a ski jumping website, or blog, to share my stories. I recently picked up the book "Winter's Children, A Celebration of Nordic Skiing" by Ryan Rodgers which I am thoroughly enjoying. I believe my thoughts on this book helped to trigger this idea. I also, of course, enjoy writing and thought this would be a great way share my passion of ski jumping.

To the left you will see a picture of me with my son. I was born and grew up in Coleraine, Minnesota, and was on skis by age 4; ski jumping on the 10 meter. Throughout childhood I spent countless hours at the ski jumps, jumping, competing and sometimes just hanging out. Those years led me into my adult path of ski jumping in which I have started a small jumping program in Cameron, Wisconsin, where my own three children are skiing (to varying degrees), and I have become a judge in the sport. The winter season involves practice two nights a week and packing up part to all of my family to travel to tournaments around the Midwest (or Central Division) on weekends. My goal this winter is to share a story from each tournament that I attend with perhaps a few bonus stories if I can keep up!

Alright folks! You will notice some changes to my website, as I am actually learning to to properly use this platform now. When I started in December, it was all about getting my words written so the could be read by all of you. Now I have more time to figure the ins and out of everything. If you want to read or re-read my stories from the winter, you can find them by clicking on Blog at the top and then 22-23 Ski Season. I will be starting with new stories as well! Just click on Blog and hopefully you can find something you enjoy reading.
